CVD Screening

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number one cause of death for men.  Prevention of death from CVD starts early in adulthood, with identification and modification of risk factors.  Early identification and treatment of CVD prevents complications.

Assessment starts with a comprehensive history and physical examination.  Appropriate screening blood tests are then arranged, and then all of the information is used to calculate CVD risk as per recognised guidelines.  The results of this calculation will dictate further management.

It is recognised that this type of assessment should be performed by the regular general practioner of the patient, but there are many young and middle aged men who are not engaged with health services, and it is for this population that our service was created.
